Preamble
The Federation of Asian Scientific Academies and Societies (FASAS) was established on 15 January 1984 at New Delhi , India . The Federation is a non-governmental scientific organization of the Asian region having twelve scientific academies and societies as its Founding Members. Memberships were later on extended to other national scientific academies and societies in the Asia Pacific region. At present FASAS has 15 members namely:

- Bangladesh Academy of Sciences
- Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Indian National Science Academy
- National Academy of Sciences Republic of Korea
- Academy of Sciences Malaysia
- Malaysian Scientific Association
- Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology
- Royal Society of New Zealand
- Pakistan Academy of Sciences
- National Academy of Science & Technology Philippines
- Singapore National Academy of Science
- National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka
- Science Society of Thailand
Currently, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman from the Academy of Sciences Malaysia is the FASAS President. The Secretariat of FASAS is located at the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur . FASAS is now devoting its effort to promote S&T for the specific purpose of meeting the common developmental needs of the various countries in Asia . To achieve this, attention is now given to science education and to increasing the awareness of the importance of S&T to policy making and planning at government and corporate levels. |
